WBFA Kwara Office Advocates for Hygiene Education: A Productive Day of Engagements

On Tuesday, March 25th, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) Kwara Office Programs Team embarked on an important series of advocacy visits, meeting with newly appointed Commissioners in the Ministries of Education and Social Development. The purpose was twofold: to congratulate these key officials on their appointments and to introduce them to WBFA’s mission and the ongoing Dettol Hygiene Quest (DHQ) project.

The day began at the UNESCO office, where the Kwara UNESCO Deputy Director and Desk Officer, Mr. Taiye Odedeji, escorted the WBFA team to the office of the Permanent Secretary. At this initial meeting, Mr. Akinsola Kehinde, WBFA’s National Programs Manager (NPM), delivered a succinct yet impactful briefing on the DHQ program. He provided an overview of its achievements, outlined plans for the project’s second year, and shared insights into the broader vision for hygiene education across the state. To mark the occasion, the team presented branded DHQ souvenirs to the Permanent Secretary, who responded with warm appreciation and accompanied the delegation to their next stop: the office of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe.

At the Commissioner’s office, the NPM formally introduced the WBFA team and congratulated Dr. Olohungbebe on his new role. He also expanded on the DHQ program’s goals, successes, and upcoming plans. This comprehensive update drew praise from the Commissioner, who expressed deep admiration for WBFA’s year-one accomplishments and recognized their significant contribution to the development of Kwara State. With a pledge of ongoing support and an open-door policy, Dr. Olohungbebe underscored the importance of collaboration and shared vision in advancing hygiene education. The WBFA team, in turn, presented the Commissioner with branded DHQ memorabilia as a token of partnership and mutual commitment.

Following this productive meeting, the team proceeded to the office of the Commissioner for Social Development, Dr. Mariam Imam. There, they extended congratulations and provided a thorough introduction to the WBFA and the DHQ project. Dr. Imam expressed her appreciation for the Foundation’s dedication and assured her full support for their efforts. As with the previous visits, the team offered branded DHQ souvenirs as a gesture of goodwill and partnership.

Overall, the WBFA Kwara Office’s day of advocacy and engagement was marked by meaningful dialogue, mutual recognition of progress made, and a strengthened commitment to fostering hygiene education and development across the state. With these new connections and assurances of support from key government stakeholders, the DHQ program is well-positioned to continue its transformative work in the year ahead.
