ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN

What we’ve done

Alaafia Kwara Resource Access Unit

We have always held the belief that lack of technical, financial, social and informational resources available to the majority of Kwarans living in rural areas needs to be speedily addressed. Our approach to this challenge is to provide access to resources in the areas of education, agriculture, private enterprise, water supply, environment and sanitation, social welfare, safety and security, vocational training and micro-credit. To achieve this, we created Resource Access Units that we plan to establish in all LGAs with the cooperation of the local authorities.

The Alaafia Kwara Annual Tour of LGAs

In 2003, for the first time in the history of Kwara State, we organised an advocacy tour of all the LGAs. During the tour, we held town hall and marketplace meetings alongside traditional rulers, leaders of faith-based organisations, market women, traders and students, to discuss issues close to our hearts, such as safe motherhood, child survival, immunisation, girl-child education, universal basic education for all and female genital mutilation. Other NGOs and government departments were also invited to accompany us on the tour, which has now become a popular and well- attended annual exercise. The tours are always closely monitored, so that we can evaluation and adjust all of our grass-roots programs.
