WBFA Alaafia Kwara Initiative Extends Lifesaving Support to Mother of Premature Twins.

As part of its unwavering commitment to maternal and child health, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) has stepped in with timely and lifesaving support for Mrs. Fatimoh Akewushola, a 34-year-old mother of six from Agbaji, Ilorin. Mrs. Akewushola, who works at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, welcomed a set of premature twins at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) on May 15th, 2025.

Already living with hepatitis and caring for four other children, Mrs. Akewushola faced an overwhelming financial burden in meeting the needs of her newborns. With no support from her husband and struggling to afford essential medications and baby supplies, she reached out to WBFA through the Data Assistant of the Foundation’s MamaCare360 NICUPlus program.

Upon assessment, WBFA confirmed the urgency of her situation. One of the major challenges she faced was the inability to lactate, which meant her babies relied solely on infant formula (pre-NAN), costing between ₦18,000 to ₦20,000 per tin—an amount that only lasts three days. The financial strain pushed her further into debt as she fought to nourish her babies.

In response, the WBFA Alaafia Kwara Initiative provided a financial relief package of ₦500,000 to cover hospital bills and purchase formula and other essential baby supplies. But the support did not stop there. Through the MamaCare360 midwives at KWASUTH, Mrs. Akewushola also received intensive health education on newborn care, breastfeeding techniques, and strategies to encourage lactation. She was further counselled on family planning and referred to the hospital’s Family Planning Unit, with the NICU Matron personally ensuring she receives appropriate contraceptive care.

Deeply moved by the Foundation’s generosity, Mrs. Akewushola expressed her profound gratitude to WBFA and its Founder-President, Her Excellency Toyin Ojora Saraki. She shared:

“I want to thank the entire WBFA, especially the Founder-President, for reaching out to me during this trying time. It has not been easy, but her support of half a million Naira has eased the burden on my family. I’m so grateful to be one of Her Excellency’s numerous beneficiaries. May Almighty Allah bless her and her family, just as they have brought ease and joy to ours.”

At the WBFA Alaafia Kwara Initiative, we believe that no woman or child should be left behind. Our work is driven by the vision of equitable access to healthcare and the belief that every family deserves a healthy and dignified life, regardless of circumstance.
