Birthday Felicitations For His Royal Highness The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari

It is an honour and a privilege to wish His Royal Highness The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Kolapo Zulqarnain Gambari CFR a very happy birthday today.

As our preeminent Royal Father in Kwara State, I deeply appreciate the fatherly kindness and encouragement which his Royal Highness has unfailingly extended towards my humble self and the activities of my Wellbeing Foundation Africa established in 2004 as then First Lady of Kwara State.

From our humble beginnings, with the Alaafia Kwara Indigent Medical Fund, Positive Lifeline PLWHA Program and Twins and Multiple Births Assistance Initiatives, and throughout the Alaafia Kwara’s interventions to rehabilitate the then Childrens’ Reception Centre Gaa Akanbi for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, restore the green ecosystem and recreational functionality of the Ilorin Amusement Park with the donation of a playground in 2006, the donation of a Children’s Ward, Nursing Station, Water Sanitation and Hygiene WASH Facilities and Playroom to the Childrens’ Specialist Hospital Centre Igboro, the Alaafia Kwara Schools Equipment and Learning Materials Program, and End Polio Routine Immunisation Campaign, amongst many other impactful activities, His Royal Highness has remained a veritable fountain of wisdom, guidance and sound counsel.

I continue to appreciate the endorsement of HRH The Emir, upon the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Johnson & Johnson Global Health and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s EmONC Program improving the availability and quality of maternity and newborn care through training of healthworkers in the signs and signals, and quality improvement in emergency obstetric and newborn skills, and the donation of EmONC skills Laboratories at selected Health Facilities throughout the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State from 2015 to date.

I am greatly encouraged by the lives saved through the EmONC training. Innovative training of this kind directly saves lives of mothers and newborns and also helps us to attain a demographic dividend in the region and country. Since we chose to harness resources and techniques towards making Kwara State a flagship of excellence in implementing global health innovation, in Nigeria. The results are evident, an increased preparedness of medical workers to predict and provide care for mothers, reinforced by improved data surveillance, towards beneficial eventualities in childbirth outcomes, and a clear drop in mortality rates in line with sustainable development goals targets.

We wish His Royal Highness The Emir of Ilorin excellent health and great wellbeing on the occasion of his birthday. Amen

H.E. Toyin Ojora Saraki
